The Miami hot spot known as Space will close its doors this September for an indefinite amount of time, but before it shuts its doors, the club will host two Labor Day weekend parties to say goodbye in style. Space’s management recently issued a statement on their website to announce the club’s closing, but the message did not explain why exactly the club must close, or when it will reopen.

We recently caught up with Club Space’s Emi Guerra, and he decided to clear the air a bit as to the speculation surrounding the closing parties and if or if not the club will be closing for good.

“The main reason is that we really just needed a break,” says Vice Ventures partner Emi Guerra, who also operates Club Space and Surfcomber Pool Parties, about the closing parties. “September is a slow month and it gives staff, management and customers a chance to rest. There is a lot that goes into operating a venue of our size and the truth is we just need some time off.”

There are rumors circulating around the Miami nightlife scene that this closing will be permanent, however, Guerra believes that they’ll reopen in the fall.

“We aren’t sure how long we will be closed,” Guerra said. “It’s not going to be a one week thing like some people have speculated. We hope to re-open the venue in the early fall sometime but we never know.”

In their online memo, Space’s management compared their closing party “marathon” to the closing parties for Ibiza’s clubs. The statement reads: “Finally after ten amazing years of non-stop action from New Years, to Miami Music Conference, to summer, and to the winter season without rest, Space Miami has decided to take a shot at its own Ibiza style closing party.”

There are also speculations that major renovations will take place at the club during its off time, but Guerra also put those rumors to rest.

“Renovations? It’s hard to oversee renovations and take a vacation at the same time,” he said. “Right now we are concentrating on our closing party. Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend will be great. We have customers flying in from all over the world for it and we hope to deliver the best night in Space’s history. My personal favorite night was the first Conference in the old Space building when Danny Tenaglia played about 16 hours on a Monday night and help put us on the map. I’m hoping this weekend is as special for some as that night was to me.”

On another note, Space’s management has already begun setting the lineups for their two-day closing spectacular. DJ Boris will headline the first night with DJ Camilo, and minimalist techno DJ, Guy Gerber, will be spinning in the loft. The second night’s DJ set is still up in the air, although Steve Angello has been confirmed to play the terrace.
