60 seconds with Roger Sanchez

Last week, Roger Sanchez kicked off the tenth season of his popular Ibiza party Release Yourself, rocking a special seven-hour set on the Amnesia terrace while Armin Van Buren and Jerome Isma-Ae held down the main room. The story continues tomorrow with Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, and Gareth Emery in the main room, while Sanchez will once again have the terrace all to himself. Before the summer heats up, we grabbed a minute with Sanchez to find out what’s in store for the season.

How was the opening of Release Yourself?

Fantastic! We were packed and the energy in the room that night was electric!

How did you come up with the theme for this year’s series, “The Beginning of a New Era”?

I wanted to do something for our 10-year anniversary. Rather than looking retrospectively at the era, I choose to always look forward, hence the futuristic theme.

While you are on the island, what are your plans when you are not in the DJ booth?

When my family is on the island, I spend as much time as I can with them, and I’ll be in the studio this year. Oh yes: It’s up and running! I’m going to invite lots of DJs over, like Chuckie, Fedde le Grand and others.

You recently launched an iPod application; what can you tell us about it?

It’s a great app to keep in touch with what’s going on in my world. It’s got cool pictures, graphics, and also my podcast, just to name a few things!

After many years in the business, what drives you to stay on top of your game?

I love what I do! I still have a passion for music and I constantly strive to take what I do to the next level

The new edition of ‘Roger Sanchez Presents Release Yourself’ is another masterpiece in the collection. With the amount of music available today, how do you determine the programming?

I am constantly receiving, downloading and hunting for new music, and whatever I am playing at the moment is what I choose for my RY compilations.

Any new weapons coming up from the Stealth arsenal?

My new single ‘2gether’, new EPs from Tim Berg, Prok & Fitch vs. Todd Terry, Lex Da Funk and Chris Moody, Alex Guesta and loads of others! Its going to be a great summer!
