Armin van Buuren in a Sea of Orange

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock the size of Uluru you would have no doubt heard that the World Cup climaxed in rather spectacular fashion on the weekend, with Spain beating out the Netherlands 1-0 to take the most prized trophy in soccer (ahem; I mean football).

Not surprisingly there was quite a lot of interest in the game from the dance community. Many big name Dutch DJs eagerly anticipated the match, and Spain’s legendary party island Ibiza is of course now in full swing… can you imagine how debaucherous Sunday night must have got when the Spanish team won?

Clearly out to show his support for his national team, despite their loss, everyone’s favourite trance titan Armin van Buuren took to the decks at their welcome home parade on Tuesday. It’s estimated that 200,000 people gathered in Amsterdam’s Museumplein, and they all got down and dirty to the sounds of Armin, Gerard Joling (a Dutch TV presenter/tenor vocalist) and… wait for it… Mariah Carey.

We reckon that’s probably the one and only time you’ll ever see an Armin-Mariah double bill. Check out some of the footage of the party below, soundtracked by Armin dropping Swedish House Mafia’s suitably epic One. He pops up around the 40 second mark, but make sure you keep watching past the breakdown (circa 1.30…) Oranje! Oranje! Oranje!
